摘要: Results from metallurgical investigations of Weldox 460 E, 700 E and 900 steel plates impacted by hardened projectiles are presented. The strength is considerable higher for than while the opposite true regarding ductility. Penetration tests on different alloys using blunt have shown that ballistic limit velocity decreases with increasing yield strength, in similar conical ogival increases strength. In a preliminary study, only deformed shear bands were observed 12 mm thick plates, intense white etched obtained both targets. latter suggests phase transformation has occurred these materials during penetration. However, based detailed SEM TEM studies localised zones, it was found difficult to prove such behaviour. Therefore, authors believe even though observed, material inside zone may not reached temperature necessary tempered untempered martensite. contrast, acicular ferrite martensite twins band 20 plate projectile. This strongly thicker plate.
