摘要: Spheroplasts of the photosynthetic bacterium Rhodospirillum rubrum were prepared from cultures grown in either presence or absence light. Cells converted into spheroplasts by using lysozyme and Versene fixed a sucrose-veronal-acetate buffer mixture containing osmium tetroxide. Some preparations shadow-cast examined whole; others embedded Epon 812 sectioned. The action appears to result removal cell wall strips. relationship chromatophores cytoplasmic membrane is readily visualized sections broken spheroplasts, areas are seen be continuous with membrane. In all examined, no definite connections between individual observed. some cells large spherical granules evident which possessed lacked clearly visible limiting On serial sectioning, appeared bounded single 40 A wide. granule was well defined only if section came center granule. Sections at other levels showed diffuse all. reasons for this discussed.
