摘要: Transport phenomena is an integral part of many engineering curricula. Some programs, particularly in chemical engineering, teach transport integrated manner, but most heat, mass and momentum transfer separate courses. Since powerful computers software packages are now available to solve problems numerically, current courses incorporate these tools for demonstration purposes. Many institutions also offer advanced level focusing on the use this type software, intuitive nature modern permits integration directly into introductory This paper summarizes efforts made Department Process Engineering Applied Science at Dalhousie University integrate one such tool, COMSOL Multiphysics, course. In course, time study inherently limited, therefore it necessary introduce topics as efficiently possible. our several hands-on tutorials used students COMSOL. We avoid too much numerical methods, error estimation techniques, or even detailed model validation techniques. Instead, focus using commercial demonstrating good modeling practices. Near end asked complete a short project. latest iteration, were reproduce simulation recent journal publication, expand results, comment significance their findings. The main challenges related implementing project include selecting that do not have unreasonably high computational requirements, increased workload teaching assistants, required expertise among students.
