摘要: An important driving force behind urban expansion is the growth of population. But for Europe, this not a sufficient explanation. The major trend that European cities have become much less compact. Since mid-1950s expanded on average by 78%, whereas population has grown only 33%. In PLUREL project - an integrated within EU's 6th Research Framework Programme more than 100 researchers from 15 countries analysed impacts land consumption at pan-European level and, through six and one Chinese case studies, identified how use conflicts pressure towards peri-urban areas can be strategically managed in different development regulatory contexts. To summarise, following strategies were as steps sustainable urban-rural futures: (i) better coordination transport, open space planning; (ii) containment densification green compact city; (iii) preservation blue infrastructure; (iv) agricultural promotion local production. need also remains to strengthen governance regional while there clearly policy attention given linkages.
