摘要: Liposomes are used as a delivery vehicle for drug molecules and imaging agents. The major impetus in their biomedical applications comes from the ability to prolong circulation half-life after administration. Conventional liposomes easily recognized by mononuclear phagocyte system rapidly cleared blood stream. Modification of liposomal surface with hydrophilic polymers delays elimination process endowing them stealth properties. In recent times, development various materials engineering other nanomaterials has made remarkable progress. Poly(ethylene glycol)-linked phospholipids (PEG-PLs) best representatives such materials. Although PEG-PLs have served formulation scientists amazingly well, closer scrutiny uncovered few shortcomings, especially pertaining immunogenicity pharmaceutical characteristics (drug loading, targeting, etc.) PEG. On hand, researchers also begun questioning biological behavior phospholipid portion PEG-PLs. Consequently, lipopolymers consisting non-phospholipids PEG-alternatives being developed. These novel offer potential advantages structural versatility, reduced complement activation, greater stability, flexible handling storage procedures low cost. this article, we review available alternatives PEG PEG-lipopolymers effective modification liposomes.
