摘要: Abstract Objectives This work was conducted to study the prophylactic efficacy of 2 topical antibiotic ointments (mupirocin and nitrofurazone) against wound infection in experimental contaminated crush wounds. Methods Male Wistar rats underwent two 2-cm incisions at back side randomized into 3 groups—placebo (n = 14), mupirocin nitrofurazone 14)—and infected with either Staphylococcus aureus or S pyogenes . All edges were crushed for 5 seconds hemostats simulate injury before inoculation microorganisms. Half wounds sutured other half left open. These treated times daily 6 days mupirocin, nitrofurazone, petrolatum (as placebo). At end days, excisional biopsies taken from histopathologic assessments made based on neutrophilic infiltration, edema formation, myofibroblastic proliferation, granulation tissue formation. For microbiologic assessments, quantitative cultures made. Results In -inoculated wounds, showed higher antibacterial activity bacterial colonization reduced rates compared placebo groups. The same effect observed open infection, but this not closed - -infected treatment significantly lowered treatment. Histopathologic examination proliferation volume nitrofurazon groups Conclusion Topical application effective infections inoculated Nitrofurazone provides better did effectively prevent
