摘要: Abstract Existing protected areas in Costa Rica were compared with Holdridge Life Zones to assess their coverage of biodiversity. The analysis revealed that only nine the 23 life zones or transitional adequately represented according our area criterion >10,000 ha. These plus three between 5000 and 10,000 ha protected, account for 98% total country. 11 remaining contained 2% Rica's area, which leads us conclude a significant portion country's biodiversity is at risk. addition about 400,000 park system by expanding 12 existing establishing one new would increase number from present 19. In addition, we propose establishment network linkage zones, be developed over long term, provide ecological connectivity among areas.
