Changes in nutrient loads (N, P and Si) in the São Francisco estuary after the construction of dams

摘要: The aim of this study was to investigate the post-d am conditions loads and yields dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN), orthophosphate (DIP, silicate (DSi) total phosphorous (TP) in Lower Sao Franci sco riverestuary (NE-Brazil) after river regulated t o a constant flow by dams. Loads monthly measurements performed from November 2000 March 2002 at gauging station downstream dams (8 0 km coast) showed 4.1 x 10 3 t/yr 0.006 t/km 2 /yr DIN, 0.2 0.002 DIP, 448 0.71 DSi, respectively. Over last 15 years, D IN reduced 94 % DSi 31%. turned into an oligotrophic system with p rimary production limited nutrient being among lowest Brazilian coastal rivers.
