Neurologist knowledge about interactions between antiepileptic drugs and contraceptive methods

摘要: Abstract Objective To evaluate neurologists’ knowledge of contraceptive counseling for women receiving antiepileptic drugs (AEDs). Methods An interview-based survey was conducted from February 2 to June 30, 2015, among neurologists working in Ribeirao Preto, Brazil. Direct interviews were using a questionnaire that assessed the pharmacological interactions between various methods and six AEDs (carbamazepine, phenobarbital, topiramate, phenytoin, lamotrigine, valproate) on basis WHO medical eligibility criteria use. Results Among 42 who participated, 32 (76%) stated they treated with epilepsy provided them family planning. Overall, 34 (81%) recommended use copper intrauterine device irrespective AED used, 26 (60%) co-prescribed hormonal contraceptives. Although 39 (93%) had might contraindicate some contraceptives, their regarding specific drug lacking. Furthermore, no Conclusion most interviewed did not know which interacted these agents.
