摘要: The gastrointestinal (GI) tract is the largest producer of serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT)) in body, and as such it intimately connected with GI function physiology. 5-HT produced by enterochromaffin (EC) cells an important enteric mucosal signaling molecule has been implicated a number diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease functional disorders irritable syndrome. This review will focus on what known basic physiology also emerging evidence for its novel role activation immune response inflammation gut. Utilizing pubmed.gov, search terms "5-HT," "EC cell," "colitis," well pertinent reviews, were used to develop brief overview EC cell biology association between various disorders. It aim this provide readers update current understanding specifically conditions.
