Genetic progresses from over three decades of faba bean (Vicia faba L.) breeding in Ethiopia

摘要: Eleven faba bean ('Vicia faba' L.) varieties released between 1977 and 2007, two promising genotypes, were evaluated to estimate the genetic progresses made in 33 years of breeding Ethiopia. The study was conducted at eight environments during 2007 2009 cropping seasons a randomized complete block design with four replications. Records taken on grain yield, seed size chocolate spot ('Botrytis fabae') severity subjected statistical analysis. Combined analysis variance revealed highly significant differences among genotypes test for all traits, G E interaction effects being yield size. Regression mean performance year varietal release showed positive relationship (r = 0.48) 0.80**) but negative -0.60*). annual rates 8.74 kg ha-1, 8.07 g 1000 seeds-1 -0.27% spot, respectively. average cumulative gains over was, therefore, 288.4 (8.1%) 266.3 (51.12%) -8.9% severity. Seed most dramatic response last may be because lesser polygenic nature this trait better availability best donor parents as compared yield. relatively slower responses associated polygenetic former shortage good later. prior an exceptionally stable adapted variety, CS20DK, might also seemingly undermined later efforts. It is, strategically advisable that efforts future should give due attention building shortcomings widely like CS20DK.
