摘要: Thermospheric temperature, composition, and winds at F region heights over the southern hemisphere polar cap have been measured by Dynamics Explorer 2 (DE 2) satellite during October–November 1981. Perigee of DE this period was cap, measurements made along 0900–2100 local time passes are used to determine average universal dependence thermospheric properties for slice. The wind vector is derived from meridional component Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI) zonal temperature spectrometer (WATS) instruments on board 2. neutral gas FPI WATS measurements, compositional structure determined atmosphere composition instrument. all display a that due displacement between geomagnetic geographic poles. molecular nitrogen densities enhanced, atomic oxygen density reduced in magnetic comparison with lower-latitude regions. pattern follows ion drift associated magnetospheric convection. National Center Atmospheric Research general circulation model (TGCM) calculate conditions similar those October TGCM includes displaced track various times. calculated agreement observed winds, both having two-cell patterns also predictions mass incoherent scatter radar 1983 empirical when models observations normalized same constant pressure surface. maximum variations occur near 0900 UT, dawn sector auroral oval south pole. overall variation except 1300 1500 UT. Better range obtained inclusion particle precipitation within cusp.
