摘要: Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) have recently been the focus of attention as a biodegradable and biocompatible substitute for conventional non degradable plastics. The cost large-scale production these polymers has inhibited its widespread use. Thus, economical, PHAs is currently being studied intensively. Various bacterial strains, either wild-type or recombinant utilized with wide spectrum utilizable carbon sources. New fermentation strategies developed efficient at high concentration productivity. With current advances, can now be produced to 80 g L?1 productivities greater than 4 PHA h?1. These advances will further lower allow this family become leading polymer in near future. This review describes properties PHAs, their uses, various attempts towards focusing on utilization cheap substrates development different polymers, an essential step forward Copyright © 2010 Society Chemical Industry.
