Estimation of Polychlorinated Biphenyl (PCB) Levels in Livers of the Otter (Lutra Lutra) from Concentrations in Scats and Fish

摘要: The decline of the European otter (Lutra lutra) seems to be related environmental contamination especially with polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). Only a limited number tissue samples from otters killed accidently as traffic victims or drowned in fishnets are available for residue analysis. Calculating levels PCBs tissues concentrations fish and scats would very valuable tool estimate potential risks this endangered species. PCB measured livers, Middle population were used examine suitability mathematical models calculating liver scat levels. Our results suggest that input parameters currently calculate do not predict mean livers our study area, giving lower than actually analysed tissues. Possible causes observed discrepancy between calculated values discussed.
