摘要: Excavations at the Mesa site in arctic Alaska provide evidence for a Paleoindian occupation of Beringia, region adjacent to Bering Strait. Eleven carbon-14 dates on hearths associated with projectile points place humans between 9,730 and 11,660 radiocarbon years before present (years B.P.). The presence Paleoindians Beringia these times challenges notion that cultures arose exclusively mid-continental North America. age span overlaps from two other cultural complexes interior Alaska. A hiatus record human occurs 10,300 11,000 B.P. Late Glacial climatic fluctuations may have made northern temporarily unfavorable spurred their southward dispersal.
