摘要: Abstract Ceramic wear maps have been developed to elucidate the complex interactions of operating parameters, environments, and mechanisms. This paper summarizes these for four ceramics, alumina, yttria-doped zirconia, silicon carbide nitride. Wear ceramics are systematically constructed using measured data under dry sliding, water, paraffin lubricated conditions. For each material, different level regions transition zones identified as a function conditions lubrication mechanism studies performed within region give rise maps. These facilitate material comparison selection. The knowledge wear, transitions, mechanisms pair enables realistic model development. One outcome this approach is recognition that single cannot cover all environments. As today, they specific. Within pair, there microstructural dependence surface properties influence. parameters can change substantially given chemical composition material. How incorporate factors into map research remains an issue. search universal parameter such “asperity temperature” in Ashby's continues spite mounting evidence may not be practical or feasible. But hope some normalize large number materials, conditions, environments tribological applications. Systematic first steps direction.
