摘要: BACKGROUND: Metaplastic breast carcinoma (MBC) is a rare malignancy comprised of ductal, squamous and/or mesenchymal elements with problematic diagnosis. OBJECTIVE: This study analyses MBC identifying its cytologic and histologic features emphasizing the combined role FNAC, histopathology immunohistochemistry (IHC) in MATERIALS AND METHODS: Cytology files search yielded 21 cases identified as from January 2005 to December 2010. FNAC slides were re-examined for presence frequency various elements. Cytological histopathological diagnoses made subtyped according WHO classification. Cytokeratin vimenten IHC used confirm diagnosis when required. RESULTS: On 52.4% diagnosed malignant, 9.5% suspicious 38.1% benign lesions. Most frequent findings spindle cell (52.4% each). Histopathology revealed 76.2% pure epithelial tumors 23.8% mixed epithelial-mesenchymal tumors. Squamous was most histological subtype (33.3%). Carcinosarcomas dimorphic on IHC& carcinomas positive both cytokeratin vimentin. CONCLUSION: Presence dual components, squamous, elements, fragments necrosis moderate high cellularity provides clues MBC. FNAC; complement
