Tensile and fatigue behaviour of self-piercing rivets of CFRP to aluminium for automotive application

摘要: In this study, the tensile and fatigue behaviour of self-piercing rivets (SPRs) in carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) to aluminium 6111 T82 alloys were evaluated. An average maximum lap-shear load capacity 3858 N was achieved, which is comparable metal-to-metal SPR joints. The CFRP-Al SPRs failed tension due pull-out rivet head from CFRP upper sheet. lap- shear specimens exhibited superior life compared previously studied aluminium-to- joints under loads predominantly kinked crack growth along width bottom cracks initiated plastically deformed region sheet close shank rivet-sheet interlock region. Scatter failure modes observed tested load.
