摘要: The word estrogen has a heterogenous origin much like the group of compounds it encompasses. It is derived from Greek “oistros” or Latin “oestrus” (gadfly, frenzy, sexual heat, animal rut, desire) and suffix “-gen” (born, generate). Oxford English Dictionary defines estrogens as “sex hormones produced in ovary usually characterized by ability to produce estrus secondary sex characteristics females.”1 They are diverse including both naturally occurring synthetic with similar biologic properties.
