摘要: Much has been written on change in social norms, but with few exceptions such efforts have failed to synthesize the growing theoretical literature specifics of empirical cases. Attempting a synthesis, we develop framework for explaining norm emergence and that builds Barth's idea generative models. We identify three mechanisms offered contemporary account dynamic process change: (I) coordination focal points, (2) competitive selection among contracts, (3) bargaining. investigate examples Galole Orma - common property rights, bridewealth, clan exogamy show examination strategic decision making within constraints presented by context can produce adequate accounts change. conclude primary mechanism is bargaining most important sources are asymmetries power.
