摘要: Co-occurring plant species can influence the extent of damage to each other by altering activity or abundance a shared herbivore. One mechanism which neighboring host plants exacerbate focal is if neighbor amplifies herbivore populations. We studied performance on native and an invasive plant, estimate how strongly presence increases local abundance-in system in highly asymmetric spillover herbivory may occur. Specifically, we conducted series greenhouse experiments that measured reproduction, development, survival stink bug Bagrada hilaris Burmeister annual forb, Sahara mustard (Brassica tournefortii), perennial shrub, four-winged saltbush (Atriplex canescens). All aspects revealed consistently greater Br. tournefortii. Indeed, A. canescens appears be insufficient for Ba. complete its development. Nonetheless, preliminary assessments found both were used as feeding hosts, putative lesions more reliable indicator than was degree yellowing, higher generally associated with sublethal canescens. Thus, susceptible herbivory, though research needed assess fitness impacts this novel Our results indicate differential among important contributor observed patterns between plants.
