Sticking of rare gas atoms on the clean Ru(001) surface

摘要: Absolute values of the initial sticking coefficients rare gas atoms (Ne, Ar, Kr, Xe) on a flat, clean Ru(001) surface have been determined with thermal beams and highly sensitive desorption method. The increase increasing mass atoms. Their decrease temperature is stronger lighter atom; different temperatures within accessible range do not measurably affect efficiency. At 300 K 6.5 are 0.004 for Ne, 0.13 0.25 0.71 Xe. Forced oscillator calculations treating substrate phonons quantum mechanically performed. With well depths derived from experiment, other reasonable input parameters, absolute functional forms can be reproduced. low due to high elastic reflection probability which consequence inefficient energy transfer phonon quantization. calculated Debye–Waller factors at zero 0.92 0.36 0.14 0.01 A classical interpretation data impossible least Ne Ar.
