The Structure of Analogical Models in Science.

摘要: Abstract : Analogical models can be powerful aids to reasoning, as when light is explained in terms of water waves; or they misleading, chemical processes are thought life such putrefaction. This paper proposes a structural characterization good science analogy using theoretical approach which complex metaphors and analogies treated structure-mappings between domains. To delineate from poor analogy, series comparisons made. First, metaphor contrasted with literal similarity; then, explanatory-predictive expressive metaphor; finally, within science, explanatory analogy. Analogies historical importance analyzed empirical findings discussed. (Author)
