Low acuity abdominal pain in the emergency department: still a long wait.

摘要: Abstract Background There are many pressures placed on Emergency Departments (EDs) and anecdotally patients with low acuity abdominal pain can spend a long time in ED waiting for treatment. Aims This paper examines the practices two EDs Melbourne, Australia. Firstly, characteristics of presentations each is presented followed by statistical comparison these terms administration medication, taking bloods length waited to see nurse doctor. A random convenience sample 10 was taken from medical records hospital October 2006. Findings Comparing demonstrated no statistically significant differences patient characteristics. Low amount initiation treatment such as analgesia having (on average 80–90min) delays negatively impact overall times (over 4h). Conclusion demonstrates lack standardized protocol ED.
