Socioeconomic and Geographical Disparities in Under-Five and Neonatal Mortality in Uttar Pradesh, India

摘要: As a part of the Millennium Development Goals, India seeks to substantially reduce its burden childhood mortality. The success or failure this goal may depend on outcomes within India's most populous state, Uttar Pradesh. This study examines level disparities in under-five and neonatal mortality across range equity markers state. Estimates rates were computed using five datasets, from three available sources: sample registration system, summary birth histories surveys, complete histories. Disparities evaluated via comparisons by rural-urban location, ethnicity, wealth, districts. While Pradesh has experienced declines both (162-108 per 1,000 live births) (76-49 mortality, rate decline been slow (averaging 2 % annum). Mortality trends rural urban areas are showing signs convergence, largely due much slower change areas. gap between rich poor households decreased areas, suggest that differences will remain. Caste-related remain high show no diminishing. Of concern also stagnation amongst groups with greater ability access services, such as middle class. Notwithstanding but steady reduction absolute levels Pradesh, distribution sub-state populations remains unequal. Future progress require significant investment quality care provided all sections community.
