It for most part surrounded by Dalradian schist, but invades Lower Old Red Sandstone lavas Glen Goe area. universally accepted as Sand-stone age. occupies an elliptical area very high and rugged ground bounded, roughly speaking, Pass Brander on south-west, Creran north-west, Coe north-east, Strae south-east (Figs. 1, 2). longer axis ellipse lies a north-easterly direction measures some 18 miles, while shorter about 10 miles. total 140 square rocks outcrop at sea-level miles along shores fjord-like Loch rise to over 3500 feet such well-known mountains Ben Gruachan, Starav, Glach Leathad. Almost entire falls within one-inch sheets 45 53 Geological Survey (Scotland). earliest geological account Gruachan was given MacCulloch (1817). He describes which mountain composed, noting pink acid type forms two man tops. On Murchison Geikie9s map Scotland 1862 Geikie9s map 1892 the boundaries are shown with fair degree of accuracy, no attempt made distinguish different intrusions. This deficiency soon
