摘要: Abstract C′ shear bands are ubiquitous structures in zones but their development is poorly understood. Previous research has determined they mostly occur rocks with a high mechanical strength contrast. Using numerical models of viscoplastic deformation, we studied the effect proportion weak phase and contrast on band during simple shearing to finite strain 18. We found that form ≥5% when there moderate or contrast, all proportions ≥15%. Contrary previous research, find layers parallel zone boundary rotate forwards. This occurs due instabilities result heterogeneous distributions stress rate. planes low rate stress, not sites maximum as previously been suggested. ephemeral either backwards C plane once inactive into field shortening thicken X- triangle-shaped structures.
