A simple model system for self-propelled particles passing a bottleneck

摘要: We study the passage of active and passive granular particles through a bottleneck under gravitational bias. The grains are pharmaceutical capsules with nearly spherocylindrical shapes on vibrating table. plate is slightly tilted in order to break in-plane symmetry give motivation move preferential direction plate. narrow gate openings comparable grain length studied using video imaging, particle positions velocities extracted from recorded frames. compare behaviour asymmetrically filled, symmetrically ones.
