Past and present status of kob (Kobus (Adenota) kob (Erxleben) in Nigeria

摘要: Past and present distribution of Kob (Kobus kob) within the Nigeria protected landscapes was studied. Reconnaissance survey all parks some existing game reserves were conducted to ascertain whether animals have existed in those areas before or they still exist. Questionnaires administered both officials residents surrounding villages enclaves where kob) exists. Coordinates park are taken used draw their previous current national map within country. The data from questionnaires analyzed using descriptive statistics. results showed that eleven but now restricted ranges three parks. Responses concerning sighting almost currently inhabited more coherent consistent 2000 date. Approximately 50% respondents Kainji, 89% for Gashaka, 100% Old Oyo National Parks confirmed can recognize seen animal before. It also Kobs Kainji stable status than Gashaka respectively. Thus, it concluded range landscape has shrunk tremendously Nigeria.   Key words: Kob, status, range, distribution, parks, area.
