Why do Firms Engage in National Sustainability Programs and Transparent Sustainability Reporting? Evidence from Mexico's Clean Industry Program.

摘要: To evaluate global and domestic corporations on their sustainability engagement, numerous metrics have been developed at the national international levels. In this paper, we assess whether largest 448 foreign local firms operating in a particular country engage initiatives (i.e., Mexico’s Clean Industry Program). The paper also assesses degree of reporting (transparency towards sustainability) by 267 firms. Using an Institutional Theory rationale, find that type industry (dirty vs. clean), regional home, engagement initiatives—i.e., UNGC—best explain firm’s decision to follow initiatives. We affiliation program are highly related transparent for large Mexican firms.
