摘要: Patient decision aids are tools intended to facilitate shared decision-making. Currently development of a patient aid is resource intensive: it requires decision-specific review the scientific literature by experts ascertain potential outcomes under different treatments. The goal this project was conduct formative evaluation generalizable, scalable component we call Veterans Like Me (VLme). VLme mines EHR data present individuals “like you” on treatments user. These outcome presented through combination an icon array and simulated narratives. Twenty-six patients participated in semi-structured interviews elicit feedback tool’s functional interface design. interview focused filters users desired with which make cases similar them, kinds they wanted presented, their envisioned use tool. also elicited participants information needs salient factors related therapeutic decision. transcripts were analyzed using iteratively refined coding schema content analysis. . Participants generally expressed enthusiasm for design functionality. Our analysis identified view like themselves, types that should be included future iterations tool (e.g. reported outcomes), need addressed effectively participate making. Implications integration our findings into discussed.
