Scavenging by large-bodied vertebrates is observed in many ecosystems but has rarely been quantified. Here we document the timing and order of scavenger arrival at 639 cheetah kills Serengeti National Park, Tanzania, focusing on ecological heterospecific factors that may impact detectability carcasses. We found small-, medium- large-sized vultures, jackals, spotted hyaenas lions were more likely to be present carcasses than small-bodied prey. Lions less locate tall grass; medium-sized vultures arrive before both large- small-sized vultures. Spotted simultaneously. Despite numerous anecdotal accounts, did not find use alighting as a means locating food. Our findings show environmental variables other species strongly influence this ecosystem. Nos decouvertes montrent environnementales autres especes influencent fortement l'arrivee cet ecosysteme.
