摘要: Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE or polyethylene) components used in total joint arthroplasty absorb lipids vivo. However, the effect, if any, of this lipid uptake on both wear and mechanical properties is not known. We contrasted effects diffusion into unirradiated UHMWPE versus that highly crosslinked preparation (a 95-kGy irradiated melted UHMWPE). doped test samples types polyethylenes with either squalene alone a 15% (w/v) solution cholestene/squalene (CH/SQ) solution. The profiles were quantified using infrared microscopy as function depth away from free surfaces; we 1620 1680 cm(-1) absorbances characteristic CH SQ, respectively. There no statistically significant changes bi-directional pin-on-disk rates neither type after absorption. On other hand, compressive modulus strength decreased doping lipid.
