摘要: Abstract Lake Victoria is the second largest freshwater body in world by surface area. It a very important water for livelihood of people, particularly those living its basin. The lake currently facing many problems such as serious environmental degradation, pollution and overfishing. Mismanagement wetlands which another problem threatening hydrological ecological balance discussed. This report provides: an overview ecosystem; describes major basin Tanzania their uses; identifies supply, agriculture, fishing, conversion into other uses (mainly residential); cattle grazing main wetlands; discusses threats changes faced wetlands. Direct anthropogenic activities irrational settlement areas are responsible wetland degradation loss. Problems sedimentation result agricultural activities, due to road construction subsidence excessive extraction indirect results human actions. Drought common natural cause change or loss Absence policy, conflicting sectoral policies on issues related wetlands, deficient planning concepts, limited information awareness importance absence institution deal specifically with management contribute A number recommendations sustainable use put forward. Formulation National Wetlands Policy launching campaigns wise recommended. presentation also emphasises carrying out research proper utilisation monitoring provision exploitation resources extension services.
