摘要: BACKGROUND Infection-induced thrombocytosis is a clinically important complication of tuberculosis infection. Recent studies have highlighted the utility aspirin as host-directed therapy modulating inflammatory response to infection but not investigated possibility that effect related an antiplatelet mode action. METHODS In this study, we utilize zebrafish-Mycobacterium marinum model show mycobacteria drive host hemostasis through formation granulomas. Treatment infected zebrafish with markedly reduced mycobacterial burden. This reproduced by treatment platelet-specific glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitors demonstrating detrimental role for infection-induced thrombocyte activation. RESULTS We find reduction in burden dependent on macrophages and granuloma formation, providing first vivo experimental evidence platelet activation compromises protective immunity CONCLUSIONS Our study illuminates efficacious target aspirin, widely available affordable candidate tuberculosis.
