摘要: DNA methylation regulates many processes, including gene expression, by superimposing secondary information on sequences. The conserved CcrM enzyme, which methylates adenines in GANTC sequences, is essential to the viability of several Alphaproteobacteria. In this study, we find that Caulobacter crescentus cells lacking enzyme accumulate low levels two FtsZ and MipZ proteins, leading a severe defect cell division. This can be compensated expression ftsZ from an inducible promoter or spontaneous suppressor mutations promote accumulation. We show promotes transcription mipZ genes regions contain CGACTC motif critical their activities regulation CcrM. addition, our results suggest has lowest activity when non-methylated, intermediate it hemi-methylated highest fully methylated. may explain why subset
