摘要: Genetic counseling is “the process of helping people understand and adapt to the medical, psychological, familial implications genetic contributions disease.” Traditionally, this includes collecting interpreting family medical history, risk assessment, a comprehensive educational for potential testing, informed consent, psychosocial assessment support (National Society Counselors' Definition Task Force et al. 2006). While falls within scope many health care professionals, clinical geneticists (physicians) masters level counselors have been working in United States more than 40 years, providing primarily single-gene conditions. Debate about what “genomic counseling” will include who practice it has fueled by transition from focused testing full genomic medicine approach. The routine incorporation likely induce differences scope, approach (Table (Table1).1). In commentary, I discuss several areas where change as we move toward “genomic” counseling, with focus on unique skills roles that provide. Table 1 Changes impact counseling.”
