摘要: Aims: Lack of adherence to smoking cessation medication regimens is assumed play a significant role in limiting their effectiveness. This study aimed assess evidence for this assumption. / Methods: A systematic search was conducted, supplemented by expert consultation, papers reporting on randomized trials and observational studies examining the association between success quit attempts. To rule out reverse causality, only where assessed prior relapse were included. Five met inclusion criteria results extracted independently two researchers. Heterogeneity precluded pooled analysis data. Results: Studies varied widely with regard both definition outcome measures. The included addressed nicotine replacement therapy. One lozenge use found that amount used 1 2 weeks after date predicted abstinence at 6 [adjusted odds ratio (OR) ‘high’ versus ‘low’ 1.25; 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.05–1.50; P < 0.02]. Similarly, one impact oral consumption during first week 4 (adjusted OR per additional mg/day = 1.05; CI = 1.01–1.10). Another participants using therapy least 5 significantly more likely self-report continuous months. remaining failed find effect treatment duration years but had very low power detect such an effect. Conclusions: There modest support assumption lack undermines effectiveness clinical studies.
