Cadmium in the European Community: a Policy-Oriented Analysis

摘要: The economic production and use of cadmium leads to environmental problems within the European Community (EC). is still increasing significantly, mainly in batteries. This article presents an analysis flows economy environment EC, using 'Substance Flow Analysis' method, a variant materials balance approach. Several abatement packages are evaluated for their effectiveness terms sustainability. Proposed EC policy on cadmium, embodying (1) end-of-the-pipe measures, (2) phase-out certain applications, (3) recycling batteries other products, does not appear offer sustainable solution problem, primarily because inelastic nature supply: as by-product zinc production.
