摘要: Sports participation for the physically disabled is rapidly growing in popularity and competitiveness, but little known about sports medicine needs of these unique athletes. We wished to determine medical injury profiles a group elite athletes competing at an international level. The Canadian team that competed 1988 Seoul Paralympic Games consisted 151 athletes: 58 wheelchair, 39 blind, 30 with cerebral palsy, 24 amputees. Analysis records treatment provided by contingent showed 82% received attention. Fifty-one percent conditions observed were musculoskeletal (MSS) 49% acute (developed Paralympics), whereas 51% chronic before Paralympics). shoulder was most common site MSS injury, rotator cuff impingement syndrome clinical diagnosis. Upper extremity injuries prevalent participating “arm-dominant” sports, lower significantly more leg-dominant sports.
