摘要: This dissertation presents some new constructs for a programming language in which two-dimensional figures can be expressed. The is intended to work with existing text-formatting systems so that text and typeset at the same time. Another application describe VLSI circuit layout. The building block figure programs called "box"; it shares features procedures records general-purpose languages. A box includes system of simultaneous equations declares relative positions its significant points requests actions performed those points: example, user may ask lines drawn between, circles around, or boxes placed selected points. A by adding enough definition solved uniquely. call also include additional during (say, extra drawn). notions drawing line using pattern (perhaps dashed dotted) texturing polygonal area (for cross-hatching) follow directly from mechanism defining calling boxes. Users opaque blots out pieces picture covers. Two commands correspond informal notion sketching serve localize this blotting effect when could ruin parts are wanted. Good algorithms implement these instructions composed straight circular arcs presented along methods detect insufficiency inconsistency equation systems. Extensions beyond ruler-and-compass model explored suggest both theoretical practical reasons limit kinds curves functions should deal with. An appendix describes an implementation was used produce dissertation.
