摘要: Girls’ rates of arrest and adjudication, although still far below those boys, have been rising for the past 15 years. In United States, girls increased 35% from 1991 to 2000, while boys decreased 11% (Snyder, 2002). Accompanying this rise in has a 65% increase juvenile detention facilities (Porter, 2000). The U.S. Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act Reauthorization 1992 acknowledged increasing number justice system mandated that states investigate treatment options gender disparity within (Budnick & Sheilds-Fletcher, 1998; OJJDP, 1998). subsequent generation intervention programs focusing on gender-specific issues appears promising as they emphasize comprehensive approach treatment. However, specific may be overly focused self-esteem empowerment issues, without addressing other important problems, such mental health needs. Unfortunately, research work justice-involved youth is limited, paucity what works particularly striking. chapter, we use term “justice-involved” represent youths experiencing various degrees involvement system, ranging who gone court committing minor delinquent acts placed state custody. As such, do not examine prevention per se, some instances, discuss efficacy school or community-based pro grams because serve exemplars system. We focus four key questions related justice-based efforts girls: 1) What are outcomes girls? 2) Are needs same boys? 3) interventions designed appropriate 4) Should developed specifically conclude with recommendations developing girls.
