摘要: Abstract Laboratory experiments showed that the submersed macrophyte Myriophyllum verticillatum L. released oxygen to, and substantially increased redox potential of, reduced solutions bathing roots. This oxidation was light-dependent, proceeded at rates similar to those reported for other plants, but lower than bog emergent plants. During 72-day laboratory incubations, chemical oxidant demand of sediment pore waters slowly in presence M. . However, plants had no significant effect on organic content. The results provided evidence by roots can counter accretion sediment.
