摘要: Abstract Understanding the spreading patterns of an invading or expanding species is necessary for ecological theory and conservation. The return Eurasian beaver throughout Europe considered one biggest conservation success stories. In general, process population has been described in detail, however several aspects regarding principles colonisation have not mentioned. We propose that should follow Skellam's model case first occupation by a pioneer during establishment growth. retrospectively reconstructed continuous beavers six catchments Western Bohemia Czech Republic. extracted data from published resources were analysed to reveal (in detail) progress front, addition considering current densities catchments. All settled possible source, but reached regardless distance source spread. However, increased spread delayed start rapid barrier effect among divides watershed was substantial because regularly crossed divides. front followed diffusion as sites with higher values into areas lower values. did not, however, accurately predict pattern occupancy.
