摘要: Aim: To identify risk factors for sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) in the sleeping environment of Irish infants. Methods: A five year population based case-control study with parental interviews conducted each case and three controls matched age, place birth, last sleep period. total 203 SIDS cases 622 control infants born 1994–98 were studied. Results: In a multivariate analysis, co-sleeping significantly increased both as usual practice (adjusted OR 4.31; 95% CI 1.07 to 17.37) during period 16.47; 3.73 72.75). The associated was dependent on maternal smoking (OR 21.84; 2.27 209.89), not significant who ⩾20 weeks age 2.63; 0.49 70.10) or placed back their own cot/bed 1.07; 0.21 5.41). use pillows, duvets, bedding tog value ⩾10 when adjusted effects confounding variables, including social disadvantage. However, prone position remains factor, among using soothers, absence soother also 5.83; 2.37 14.36). Conclusion: Co-sleeping should be avoided are <20 whose mothers smoked pregnancy. factor some deaths, relation between is complex variable requiring further study.
