摘要: Aim To investigate and compare the radiographic size of acute apical abscess lesions for presence Epstein–Barr virus (EBV), human cytomegalovirus (HCMV), herpesvirus-6 (HHV-6) papillomaviruses (HPV) DNA by means real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method. Methodology According to lesions, 11 were categorized as large (≥5 mm) 10 small (<5 mm). extracts from purulent exudate aspirates 21 cases control samples evaluated viral loads using PCR methods following kit protocols recommended manufacturers. Statistical analysis was performed chi-squared test with Yates's correction Fisher's exact test. Results HCMV detected in 27% 10% lesions. EBV identified 18% HPV HHV-6 found 9% None contained or DNA. Viral coinfections two pair HCMV/EBV HCMV/HHV-6 No significant associations between any target viruses periapical As healthy pulps used noninflamed controls, no specimens DNA. Conclusions HCMV most frequent herpesvirus amongst both In tended occur coinfection HCMV. Additional studies are required elucidate role herpesviruses pathogenesis abscess.
