摘要: Abstract Who is in private prisons? This seemingly straightforward question has received surprisingly little attention the United States. paper analyzes national prison data to provide demographic profiles of prisoners and workers prisons States compare them state federal prisons. It summarizes on jurisdiction, sentence length, race, citizenship prisoners, as well race gender correctional officers. Results reveal differences between public with respect both workers. Specifically, detain inmate populations that are disproportionately non-white, under serving short sentences; they employ officers female black or Hispanic. These results depict sector distinct from its counterpart—both terms prisoner staff composition. A discussion considers implications these findings for equity punishment.
