Arousal, Anxiety, and Performance: A Reexamination of the Inverted-U Hypothesis

摘要: Abstract Until recently, the traditional Inverted-U hypothesis had been primary model used by sport psychologists to describe arousal-performance relationship. However, many psychology researchers have challenged this relationship, and current trend is a shift toward more “multidimensional” view of arousal-anxiety its effects on performance. In study, 104 college-age participants performed simple response time task while riding bicycle ergometer. Participants were randomly assigned one eight arousal groups (between 20 90% heart rate reserve) told they competing for cash prize. Prior task, Competitive State Anxiety Inventory-2 Sport Scale (SAS) administered assess influence cognitive somatic anxiety.
