Community-based dengue prevention programs in Puerto Rico: impact on knowledge, behavior, and residential mosquito infestation.

摘要: Dengue is a major health burden in Puerto Rico. Televised public service announcements and posters, elementary pre-school educational programs, an exhibit at the Children's Museum Old San Juan were evaluated separately using knowledge practices surveys administered to children their parents, of house lots for larval container habitats, focus groups, interviews with program organizers participants. Exposure programs was associated increased dengue-related knowledge, proportion tires protected from rain, decreased water storage containers positive mosquito larvae, indoor use aerosol insecticides. school slightly lower indices residential infestation. The have resulted high levels awareness, some behavior change, limited change indices. Greater emphasis on skills necessary community members keep free larvae would increase effectiveness.
