摘要: Hypothesis: Histopathologic findings in temporal bones with congenital malformations of the bony cochlea may provide insight into cochlear implantation planning, surgical approach, and complications. Background: Patients congenitally malformed cochleae account for an increasing percentage candidates implantation. Few studies on relationship between histopathologic malformation have been reported. Methods: We studied 21 from 12 cases cochlea. Ages ranged stillborn to 50 years. Length dimensions facial recesses were measured light microscopy. Other associated a shortened determined, emphasizing how they affect Results: The average length duct was 22.84 ± 0.69 mm. Average not significantly different controls, included enlarged aqueduct (43%), abnormal nerve course (57%), vestibular (52%), aplasia middle ear (19%), ossicles (67% ), oval window round (29%). Conclusion: A cause incomplete insertion implant electrode. Because are similar normal cases, recess approach is recommended. An perilymphatic oozing or gushing fenestration anomalous common finding. Tympanic such as deformities small cleft should be noted preoperatively better guide surgery.
